Two Play, with myself on alto and Anthony on piano, is a difficult one to pass off as related to jazz, but as Charles Fox has said: ‘..when the musicians have been reared in jazz or work regularly alongside players we associate with jazz, then it’s reasonable for us to keep our eyes and ears open.’* Although through-composed in two parts, without any obvious sections of improvisation, listeners should hear the kind of nuanced inflections and liberties being taken with tempi and rhythm reminiscent of jazz, rather than playing it straight.
